The Maze Runner was produced in 2014

The action movie, The Maze Runner, was produced in 2014. It is based off the book The Maze Runner by James Dashner. The movie director, Wes Ball, is an American film director, visual effects artist, and graphic artist who graduated from Florida State University College of Motion Picture Arts. Wes Ball is well-known for this motion picture starring the following people: Dylan OBrien as Thomas, Kaya Scodelario as Teresa, Aml Ameen as Alby, Ki Hong Lee as Minho, Thomas Brodie-Sangster as Newt, and Will Poulter as Gally. The other cast members were: Blake Cooper as Chuck, , Dexter Darden as Frypan, Chris Sheffield as Ben, Joe Adler as Zart, Alexander Flores as Winston, Jacob Latimore as Jeff, Randall D. Cunningham as Clint, and Patricia Clarkson as Ava Paige. An estimated budget for this movie would be about 340,000,000. Two interesting facts about the setting of the film is that it took place at the same location as the major motion picture Dawn of the Planet of the Apes on the Thompson Farm in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. Also, the stage that the maze was created on in the movie had once been a Sams Club store in Baton Rouge.

The Maze Runner is book number one to a series of books written by James Dashner. Wes Ball created the motion picture in 2014. He had created the short film Ruin in 2011. Ball first read the book the moment he was hired as the director of the movie. The movie had teenagers who were suddenly brought up to the open land in the middle of nowhere known as The Glade. This area was surrounded by thick, concrete walls that were one hundred feet high. In "The Glade," they were forced to live by their own leadership and sense of order. The movie started off with Thomas coming up through the underground elevator. In the elevator with him were supplies that the gladers would need for the month. Like all others, once they arrive they had no memory of their previous life. Once on the property, Thomas receives the nickname Greenie. He immediately met Alby, the first glader, known as the prominent leader, Newt Albys best friend, Gally the bully,Chuck the joking chubby kid, and Minho who was the fastest runner out of all the teenagers in The Glade. Minho was one of the bravest, during the day he would go out and explore the maze attempting to figure out a way for the gladers to escape. Later in the film, Thomas finally entered the maze and in the maze were violent creatures known as Grievers. Once they exited the maze, the movie ended in a laboratory which puts the viewer in the mind of sci-fi motion pictures. Overall, the actors were brilliantly picked. Their ability to undergo the physical and mental tasks were amazing. There were several scenes that focused more on the physical aspect of the actor or actress whether than getting their lines correct. Wes Ball did not want others to place the movie in certain categories. He also wanted to attract an audience who watched the Goonies and the Raider [Of The Lost Ark]. Ball wanted a sense of adventure. Also, the director kept the movie PG-13 without any profanity; therefore, the scene was more mature which he insisted that young adults would find that more appealing.

Wes Ball leaves the movie open ended just as James Dashner did in the novel. This upset some critics because maybe they did not like the novel nor the movie; therefore, they did not want to expect a sequel. Personally, the novel-based movie exceeded my liking because I tend to favor the book more that I do the movie. Although the book did drop some things that the book included, it did not really bother me much due to the fact that those few unnecessary clips would not have worked. Overall, Wes Ball is a great director for young adult movies.
