Cyberbully directed by Charles Binome

Nearly 43% of teens have been bullied online. 1 in 4 has had it happen more than once. The movie, Cyberbully, directed by Charles Binome, has made such an impact and has opened many eyes countrywide. Cyberbully received 3.4 million views on its official release date, which was July 17, 2011. It became the week's number one TV film, and the second most viewed TV film of the 2011 and 2012 season. The main character, Emily Osment, played as Taylor Hillridge. Kay Panabaker, as Samantha Caldone,Taylor's bestfriend. Kelly Rowan, as Kris Hillridge, Taylor's mother. Jon McLaren, as Scott Ozsik, Taylor's crush. Meaghan Rath, as Cheyenne Mortenson, Taylor's friend. Nastassia Markiewicz, as Lindsay Fordyce, the main antagonist and the queen bee at Taylors high school. Jade Hassoune, as Caleb, a gay student at Taylors school, and is also a victim of cyberbullying. Robert Naylor, as Eric Hillridge, Taylors brother. Caroline Redekopp, as Karen Caldone, Samanthas mother. Ronda Louis-Jeune, as Becca, Lindsays friend. The main cast includes; Emily Osment, Kay Panabaker, and Kelly Rowan.

At the beginning of this movie, Taylor received a laptop from her mother for her 17th birthday. Taylor gets excited by the idea of freedom and the independence of going online without her mother constantly beaming over her shoulder. She decided to make an account on cliqsters, which is not the real website. They had to make up a fake website, because if they used facebook or myspace, then they might lose users. Taylor sets up the page with her bestfriends, Samantha and Cheyenne. They set her up a profile and she begins to communicate with people from her high school. Taylor's little brother, Eric, hacks into her profile because she refused to make him one. Eric and his friend make a nasty status and everyone from her high school sees it. This is when Taylor's life started to go down hill. Everyone started calling her dirty names. Later, her friend Samantha makes a fake profile of a cute boy and Taylor reveals all of her secrets to him and then he starts to talk trash about her on social media. Taylor still not knowing it was her bestfriend at the time, continuously looks to Samantha for comfort. It becomes really bad and eventually she loses all of her friends and becomes lonely. Taylor starts to fall apart and goes into a suicidal stage. After a hard morning at school, she just couldnt take it anymore. She left school broken down in tears. When she got home she made a video saying why she doesnt know why everyone hates her so much and how shes beginning to hate herself as well. She said she didnt see the reason for breathing anymore, then ended the video. Samantha sees the video, she starts crying and feels guilty for her actions. She called Taylor, but she didnt answer. Samantha then calls Taylors mom telling her that she thinks Taylor is trying to kill herself. They both rush over to the house with an ambulance. Samantha runs up stairs to find Taylor in the bathroom trying to open up a pill bottle. Samantha tries to get the bottle out of Taylors hands and when she does, the pills go flying onto the floor. Taylor's mother, Karen, comes running into the bathroom and grabs Taylor as she is screaming. This is the saddest part of the movie in my opinion. Taylor ends up in the hospital, regretting what she has done. Samantha eventually tells Taylor what she has done and hopes for one day Taylor will forgive her. She then starts going to meetings for bullied teens and is surprised to see Caleb, one of her gay classmates. The meetings allowed her to get things off her chest and to receive advice from her classmates their. Taylor and her mother end up taking a stand towards teens being cyberbullied, to make people more aware of the real dangers that exist online. At the end of the movie, people at school begin to bully Samantha and Taylor is there for her as a friend. When walking into school one day Samantha and Taylor take a stand against the bullies and they win.

The general perception of this movie was to raise awareness of cyberbullying. This movie states that words do hurt and people should be more aware of emotional abuse not just physical. It shows the emotional devastation that bullying inflicts on its victims and their families. This movie has been called things like; A masterpiece of unintentional comedy., Unrealistic high school drama., and Hazardous to brain cells. In my opinion, this movie is as realistic as it gets. Some people have no respect for others and what they go through on a daily basis. If anything, this movie is a masterpiece of teen reality. It shows how social media can tear someone down. Cyberbully has made all the points necessary and has touch the hearts of millions everywhere. ABC Family created badges that people could add to their profile pictures on websites like, Twitter and Facebook; the badge says delete digital drama! In the actually event Taylor did commit suicide, which is why the movie was made.

Rest in peace.
